United Initiators NOROX®771 Methylacetone Peroxide 1338-23-4

2023-10-11norox771
Product Description: NOROX® 771 is a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and tert-butyl hydrogen peroxide, containing a coagulant. It is a liquid polymerization initiator used for the room-temperature curing of special unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins. It offers the following advantages and characteristics:
  • Low peak exothermic heat release
  • Excellent 24-hour cure time
  • Longer gel time
  • Reduced foaming in vinyl ester resins
  • Low shrinkage
Technical Data:
  • Active oxygen content: Not more than 9.0%
  • Form: Liquid
  • Color: Colorless and transparent
  • Specific gravity at 25°C: 1.2
  • Flash point (SETA C.C.): Minimum 150°F/66°C
  • Solubility: Oxygen-containing organic solvents
  • Slightly soluble in: Water
Applications: NOROX® 771 is an excellent liquid polymerization initiator for room-temperature curing of unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins, suitable for applications requiring lower peak exothermic heat release.Compared to standard NOROX® MEKP products (such as MEKP-9, -925, etc.), gel time is slower; however, the hardness of the fully cured resin is generally better than that of resins initiated with standard MEKP. In most applications, it is recommended that parts made with NOROX® 771 be left in the mold for 24 hours, or at least overnight, to ensure dimensional stability after demolding. Storage:
  • Storage at 80°F or below is recommended. For maximum shelf life, storage below 70°F is recommended.
  • Store in the original container, away from flammable materials and all heat sources, sparks, or flames, and away from catalysts such as cyclic cobaltate, initiators, accelerators, oxidizing or reducing agents, strong acids, or strong bases.
  • Leaking containers should be immediately removed and isolated in a safe area. Repackage or dispose of immediately (see Spill Response).
  • Never store in a refrigerator containing food and/or beverages.
Handling:
  • Familiarize all personnel with safe handling procedures and clearly explain them.
  • Remove only the amount of material needed for one work shift.
  • Wear safety glasses or goggles and chemical-resistant gloves.
  • Keep away from heat sources, flames, and sparks.
  • Avoid inhaling vapors.
  • Dilution is not recommended.
  • Never add peroxide directly to the accelerator to prevent violent decomposition.
First Aid:
  • Eyes: Immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
  • Skin: Wash thoroughly with soap and water.
  • Ingestion: Drink plenty of milk or water and seek medical attention immediately. Do not induce vomiting. It is recommended to call your local poison control center to assist the doctor.
Spill Response:
  • Clean up immediately and absorb with an inert material (vermiculite or sand).
  • After absorption, immediately moisten the material slightly with water, place it in a clean plastic bag, and then place the bag in a plastic bucket.
  • Dispose of immediately in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Fire:
  • Peroxides are highly flammable and burn rapidly.
  • It is best to extinguish the fire with water from a safe distance, preferably using a water mist nozzle.
  • For very small fires, carbon dioxide, foam, or dry chemical extinguishers may be effective.
Packaging, Shipping, and Supply:
  • NOROX® 771 is standardly packaged in 4x8-pound and 44-pound (20-kilogram) polyethylene bottles.
  • NOROX® 771 is also available pre-colored in 44-pound (20-kilogram) bottles.
  • Classification—Please refer to Sections 14 and 15 of the specific NOROX® 771 Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for transportation and regulatory information.
