Trigonox® 44B VRN is an acetylacetone peroxide formulation for curing unsaturated polyester resins in the presence of cobalt accelerators at room and elevated temperatures. Faster curing speeds can be achieved with Trigonox® 44B VRN/Cobalt accelerator curing systems at room and elevated temperatures than those based on MEKP with cobalt accelerators. Typically, the gel time with Trigonox® 44B VRN is comparable to that of Butanox M-50. Trigonox® 44B VRN is particularly suited for applications that require rapid mold changes, such as cold press molding or resin injection molding techniques. The system Trigonox® 44B VRN/Cobalt accelerator will produce a higher peak exotherm than the standard MEKP/Cobalt accelerator system. Due to this fact, is it advisable to avoid producing too thick laminates in one operation. At low temperatures, reasonable curing speeds can still be achieved when Trigonox® 44B VRN is used in combination with large quantities of cobalt accelerator (possibly with N,N dimethylaniline as accelerator).
