- NOROX® PD-40 FRED is a red liquid containing acetone peroxide, with its sensitivity reduced by the acetone diol coolant.
- This peroxide is suitable as a free-radical initiator for curing unsaturated polyester resins.
- Main Applications: Used in combination with cobalt catalysts to cure thin-walled molded parts at room temperature.
- Appearance: Red liquid
- Sensitivity-reducing agents: glycol, acetone diol
- Active Oxygen (AO): approx. 4.1% w/w
- Density (20°C): approx. 1.1 g/cm³
- Viscosity (20°C): Approximately 37 mPa·s
- Compatible with alcohols and phthalates
- Critical temperature (SADT): approx. 60°C
- Recommended storage temperature: 10°C to 25°C
- Storage stability after delivery: 6 months
- Used to cure unsaturated polyester resins in combination with a cobalt catalyst at room temperature.
- The pot life (gel time of the resin + peroxide mixture) is typically only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
- The conventional pot life (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short but can be extended by adding an inhibitor (e.g., TC-510 inhibitor).
- The initiator introduces significant heat into the curing system, thereby shortening demolding time.
- Curing remains relatively fast even at temperatures below 20°C, especially when used in combination with Accelerator CA-12.
- Some fillers, pigments, or stabilizers may interfere with or completely prevent curing.
- This product is not suitable for vinyl resins.
- Suitable for a variety of processes, including hand lay-up, spray lay-up, vacuum and injection molding (RTM), wet press molding, centrifugal casting (pipes), and continuous impregnation (corrugated sheets).
- Avoid heat sources, light, and humidity, and protect the product from contamination by foreign matter.
- Keep within the safe temperature range.
