Trigonox® 44B is a fast-curing acetylacetone peroxide used in standard unsaturated polyester resins as well as ISO and ISO/NPG resins to achieve faster curing than Butanox M-50, including in vanishing red (VR) indicator systems.
Applications
Trigonox® 44B is an acetylacetone peroxide formulation designed to cure unsaturated polyester resins at room temperature and elevated temperatures in the presence of cobalt accelerators.Compared to curing systems based on MEKP with cobalt accelerators, curing systems using Trigonox® 44B and cobalt accelerators achieve faster cure rates at both room temperature and elevated temperatures.Typically, the gel time with Trigonox® 44B is comparable to that with Butanox M-50. Trigonox® 44B is particularly suitable for applications requiring rapid mold change, such as cold pressing or resin injection molding.The Trigonox® 44B/cobalt accelerator system produces higher peak exothermic heat release than standard MEKP/cobalt accelerator systems. For this reason, it is recommended to avoid producing laminates that are too thick in a single operation.At low temperatures, reasonable curing rates can still be achieved when Trigonox® 44B is used in combination with a large amount of cobalt accelerator (possibly together with N,N-dimethylaniline as an accelerator).
