Perkadox® 33 is a specialized low-concentration BPO formulation used for curing mining bolts and chemical anchors.
Applications
For certain specialized applications, it is desirable to use dry benzoyl peroxide powder as a catalyst. For these situations, the benzoyl peroxide formulation Perkadox® 33—a mixture of benzoyl peroxide and fillers—has been introduced. Perkadox® 33 is very easy and safe to handle. It contains no plasticizers, and its concentration is lower than that of typical benzoyl peroxide formulations, making dosing easier. One of the most important applications of Perkadox® 33 is as a catalyst for unsaturated polyester resin-based putty. Putty containing accelerated polyester resin and Perkadox® 33 cures rapidly, allowing surfaces to be sanded and polished in a short time. The putty consists of two components: a) a powder composed of a mixture of fillers, pigments, and Perkadox® 33 as the catalyst; b) a liquid component consisting of polyester resin and N,N-dimethylaniline (10% aliphatic ester formulation) or N, N-dimethyl-p-toluidine (10% aliphatic ester formulation), or an amine-containing polyester resin accelerator. When putty must be used, mix components a) and b). Manufacturers of these putties should note that the liquid component contains Perkadox® 33 and an accelerator; the concentration should be such that, after the two components are mixed, there is sufficient time to apply the putty.
