Chemical/Physical Properties
Synolite™ 6494-U-2 is a DCPD-based unsaturated polyester resin dissolved in styrene. This resin is pre-promoted with a polyamine and features medium viscosity and high reactivity.
Main Applications
Synolite™ 6494-U-2 is a versatile putty resin primarily used in the manufacture of body fillers and putties cured with benzoyl peroxide. Fillers made from Synolite™ 6494-U-2 exhibit excellent dry-sanding properties and do not clog sandpaper quickly. This resin can cure at low temperatures, even around 0°C.
Key Characteristics
Fillers and putties based on Synolite™ 6494-U-2 offer early dry-sanding capability, particularly on sanding machines. The hardness of Synolite™ 6494-U-2 is equivalent to that of a 4:6 blend of the hard Synolite™ 9248-U-3 and the flexible Synolite™ 2710-U-2. Synolite™ 6494-U-2 is ideal as the sole binder for body fillers, accepts higher filler loads, and exhibits excellent storage stability in the resulting paste. Adding Synolite™ 9248-U-3 increases its hardness, while combining it with Synolite™ 2710-U-2 increases its flexibility. Synolite™ 6494-U-2 body filler exhibits good adhesion to a variety of substrates, including low-carbon steel, galvanized steel, aluminum, and polyester.
