SWANCOR 983-M is a modified vinyl ester resin primer that combines the high toughness of elastomers with the physical properties of vinyl ester resins. Using SWANCOR 983-M offers the following benefits.
- It exhibits superior adhesion strength and high toughness on metal substrates.
- Chemical resistance comparable to that of bisphenol-A-type vinyl ester resins.
- It is inherently thixotropic, making it easy to apply.
- Better abrasion resistance than traditional vinyl ester resins.

Packaging, Storage, and Handling
- SWANCOR 983-M is packaged in 5-gallon steel drums, each weighing 20 kg.
- SWANCOR 983-M is a reactive resin and should be stored in a cool place. If stored for an extended period, open the lid to allow air to enter and extend its shelf life.
- The gel time of SWANCOR 983-M is primarily affected by the hardener concentration and temperature. Since differences in hardeners, humidity, pigment fillers, and other additives can all affect curing characteristics, it is recommended that operators first conduct a small-scale test to evaluate curing characteristics under their own operating conditions before using this product.
Precautions
- Steel substrates should be sandblasted to Sa 2 1/2 prior to coating.
- When applying in high-humidity conditions, the hardener content may be increased as appropriate (by at least 1.0%) to enhance curing performance. With the correct amount of hardener added, high humidity does not affect the properties of SWANCOR 983-M.
- Apply SWANCOR 983-M within 8 hours after sandblasting, ensuring the surface is free of water droplets, grease, dust, and other contaminants that may interfere with adhesion.
- After SWANCOR 983-M is applied, the surface will provide a residue that ensures good recoatability. Therefore, in summer, apply the next coat within 4 hours after applying SWANCOR 983-M (in winter, within 8 hours) and complete the build-up within one week. If the build-up cannot be completed within the recommended time frame, a styrene adhesion test must be performed before applying the next coat.If no re-adhesion is observed, the surface must be roughened before applying the next coat.
- SWANCOR 983-M is a layered liquid; be sure to stir it thoroughly before use.
