United Initiators NOROX®PULCAT S Methylisobutyl Ketone Peroxide 37206-20-5

2023-10-11noroxpulcat-s
NOROX® PULCAT S is a highly reactive liquid mixture whose main component is a methyl isobutyl ketone-based peroxide that has been desensitized using aliphatic hydrocarbons. This peroxide serves as a curing agent (radical source) for unsaturated polyester resins. It is primarily used for curing large molded parts under high-temperature conditions (60–120°C). Technical Data:
  • Appearance: Colorless liquid
  • Active oxygen content: approx. 10.5% w/w
  • Desensitizer: Fatty esters
  • Density (20°C): approx. 0.89 g/cm³
  • Viscosity (20°C): approx. 5 mPas
  • Solubility: Insoluble in water; miscible with alcohols and phthalates
  • Critical Temperature (SADT): Approximately 50°C
  • Refrigerated Stability: Remains liquid at temperatures below -25°C
  • Initiation temperature: approx. 55°C
  • Recommended storage temperature: Below 25°C
  • Shelf life at 25°C after delivery: 6 months
  • Compliant with ElektroG (EU Directives: RoHS 2002/95/EG, WEEE 2002/96/EG)
Applications:
  • Curing of polyester resins
  • Application: As a curing agent for UP resins; may be used in combination with cobalt accelerators
  • Temperature range: 60–120°C
  • Usage Level: 1–2% of the undiluted product; may be used in combination with 0.1–0.5% of the COB-1TX accelerator if necessary
  • Curing can occur at room temperature; the typical “pot life” of the resin plus peroxide mixture is 4–8 hours
  • The pot life can be extended by lowering the storage temperature
  • The “working time” for the resin + peroxide + accelerator mixture is typically 1–3 hours
  • The pot life can be extended by adding the inhibitor TC-510
  • Curing Characteristics: Has a relatively long gel time at room temperature but a short curing time; can be used in combination with cobalt accelerators
  • Above approximately 55°C (“initiation temperature”), curing occurs relatively quickly even without cobalt
  • Moderate exothermic reaction with low internal stress
  • Moderate degree of cure; post-curing at 80–120°C is recommended
  • Processing Methods: Specifically designed to provide a relatively long pot life while maintaining the lowest possible initiation temperature; therefore, it is particularly suitable for continuous impregnation of (corrugated) panels and applied gel coats, as well as fiber winding of pipes and tanks
Measurement Data:
  • Reactivity of polyester resins for curing at room temperature:
    • Resin: Positive-phase acid-curing polyester, medium reactivity
    • Temperature: 25°C
    • Method: DIN 16945 (20-gram test tube)
    • Formulation: By weight parts
  • Reactivity of polyester resins for curing at high temperatures:
    • Temperature range: 50°C–80°C
Packaging:
  • The standard packaging for NOROX® PULCAT S is 20 kg.
