- Name: NOROX® CHP-90
- Chemical Composition: cis-Isopropylbenzene peroxide/2-isopropylbenzene peroxide
- CAS Number: 18-15-9
- Form: Liquid mixture
- NOROX® CHP-90 is a colorless to pale yellow liquid solution of cis-isopropylbenzene peroxide. It is an economical free-radical initiator for unsaturated polyester resins, ethylene monomers, and alkyd resins.
- NOROX® CHP-90 can be used alone or in combination with other peroxides in both ambient-temperature and high-temperature processes.
- cis-Isopropylbenzene peroxide content: 90.0 (nominal value)
- Form: Liquid
- Density @ 25°C: 1.05
- Flash point (SETA C.C.): minimum 150°F/66°C
- Soluble in: alcohols, ketones, esters, hydrocarbons
- Slightly soluble in: water
- NOROX® CHP-90 is particularly suitable for initiating the curing of unsaturated polyester resin systems at both room temperature and elevated temperatures.
- Typically, the exothermic curve exhibited is mild and flat, resulting in gradual and thorough curing. This characteristic can reduce material cracking, particularly in thicker cross-linked sections.
- NOROX® CHP-90 is typically used in pre-accelerated resin systems in which cobalt and/or manganese compounds serve as the primary accelerators.
- Caution: NOROX® CHP-90 must never be mixed directly with acids or accelerators. This may cause violent decomposition, leading to fire and/or explosion.
- Molecular Weight: 152 g/mol
- Empirical Formula: C9H12O2
- Thermal decomposition data: 159°C (318°F) for 10 hours, 190°C (374°F) for 1.0 hour, 230°C (446°F) for 0.1 hour
- NOROX® CHP-90 is standardly packaged in 4x8-pound and 44-pound (20-kilogram) polyethylene bottles.
- Classification: Please refer to Sections 14 and 15 of the specific NOROX® CHP-90 Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for transportation and regulatory information.
