Basic Information
- Name: NOROX® CHP-90
- Chemical composition: cis-isopropylbenzene peroxide/2-peroxyisopropylbenzene
- CAS No.: 18-15-9
- Form: liquid mixture
descriptive
- NOROX® CHP-90 is a colorless to pale yellow liquid solution of cis-isopropylbenzene peroxide. It is an economical free radical initiator for unsaturated polyester resins, vinyl monomers, as well as greases and alkyds.
- NOROX® CHP-90 can be used alone or in combination with other peroxides in ambient and elevated temperature processes.
Technical data
- Cis-isopropylbenzene hydrogen peroxide content: 90.0 (nominal)
- Form: Liquid
- Density @ 25°C: 1.05
- Flash Point (SETA C.C.): 150°F/66°C minimum
- Soluble in: alcohols, ketones, esters, hydrocarbons
- Slightly soluble in: water
appliance
- NOROX® CHP-90 is particularly suitable for initiating the cure of unsaturated polyester resin systems at ambient and elevated temperatures.
- Typically, the exothermic profile exhibited is mild and flat, leading to a gradual but thorough cure. This characteristic reduces material cracking, especially in thicker cross-linked sections.
- NOROX® CHP-90 is typically used in pre-promoted resin systems where cobalt and/or manganese compounds are the primary accelerators.
- CAUTION: NOROX® CHP-90 should never be mixed directly with acids or accelerators. It may cause violent decomposition leading to fire and/or explosion.
chemical structure
- Molecular mass: 152 g/mol
- Empirical formula: C9H12O2
- Thermal decomposition data: Temperature 159°C (318°F) 10 hours, 190°C (374°F) 1.0 hours, 230°C (446°F) 0.1 hours
Packaging, transportation and availability
- NOROX® CHP-90 is available in standard package sizes of 4x8 lb and 44 lb (20 kg) polyethylene bottles.
- Classification: Refer to sections 14 and 15 of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for specific NOROX® CHP-90 for transportation and regulatory information.
