- Name: NOROX® CHM-50
- CAS Number: 80-15-9
- Structural Formula: Slightly yellow liquid
- NOROX® CHM-50 is a solution containing cis-isopropylbenzene peroxide and an accelerator. It is a liquid polymerization initiator used to cure vinyl ester resins at room temperature and offers the following advantages and characteristics:
- Moderate peak exothermic heat release, typically lower than that of methyl ethyl ketone peroxides (MEKPs).
- Moderate gel time in vinyl ester resins.
- Excellent final cure quality.
- Low impurity levels (water, hydrogen peroxide, salts, etc.).
- No gas generation.
- Appearance: Slightly yellowish liquid
- Active oxygen (AO): approx. 4.5% w/w
- Density @ 20°C: approx. 1.04 g/cm³
- Flash point: approx. 60°C
- Critical Temperature (SADT): Approx. 60°C
- Recommended storage temperature: Up to 30°C; for maximum shelf life, do not exceed 25°C
- Storage stability from the date of delivery: 6 months
- 5 kg (8 lb) and 25 kg (40 lb) HDPE drums

- NOROX® CHM-50 is an excellent liquid polymerization initiator for room-temperature-curing novolak epoxy ethyl ester resins, enabling the curing reaction to proceed within a reasonable timeframe without gas generation.Gel times and peak times are typically longer than those achieved with MEKP products (e.g., NOROX® ENP-102). However, the hardness of the fully cured resin is generally superior to that of resins initiated with MEKPs. After curing, styrene emission levels are typically lower than those associated with MEKPs.
- Potentially detectable decomposition products: ethylbenzophenone, cis-isopropanol
- Avoid exposure to heat, light, and moisture, and protect the product from contaminants. Store within the safe temperature range.
