CUROX® SOLAR FC1 is a colorless, free-flowing liquid whose main component is technically pure tert-butyl peroxy-(2-ethylhexyl) carbonate.This peroxocarbonate offers superior thermal stability and is primarily used for the cross-linking of ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA), making it particularly suitable for photovoltaic applications. Applications
  • EVA crosslinking agent: Used for crosslinking ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer (EVA); can also be used in combination with other peroxides having different reactivity.
  • Lamination temperature range: 135–165°C.
  • Advantages: Liquid, easy to meter, can be mixed with other peroxides, low Hazen number and high purity, prevents any discoloration.
Processing
  • As a low-viscosity liquid peroxide, CUROX® SOLAR FC1 can be premixed with EVA in a drum mixer or belt mixer, or added directly to the extruder hopper or metering zone; it is suitable for thermoplastic materials.
  • Due to the low softening temperature (below 100°C) of the special encapsulation-grade EVA, CUROX® SOLAR peroxides exhibit sufficient thermal stability during the extrusion process.
  • The resulting composite material (encapsulated sheet) exhibits long-term stability at room temperature, ensuring consistent quality over an extended period.
  • The vacuum lamination and crosslinking processes are typically carried out at approximately 145°C. The amount of peroxide used depends on the other formulation components and can vary between 0.5 and 2% w/w based on the EVA content (see Table 1).
  • Temperature deviations have a significant impact on the crosslinking rate and may affect the final crosslinking rate.
  • CUROX® SOLAR FC1 can be used in combination with CUROX® SOLAR SC. In this case, the vacuum lamination/crosslinking temperature should be adjusted according to the higher thermal stability of CUROX® SOLAR SC.
Packaging
  • CUROX® SOLAR FC1 is standardly packaged in 25-kilogram (55.12-pound) polyethylene drums.
