Product Description.

  • ACH-80-AL3 is a colorless flowable liquid containing approximately 80% w/w of 1,1-tert-butyl cyclohexyl peroxide desensitized by alkane hydrocarbons. This cyclohexyl peroxide is used as a cure initiator (free radical source) for unsaturated polyester resins.
  • Main areas of application: Thermal compression molding of SMC or BMC in the temperature range of 130 - 150°C (266 - 302°F).

  • Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C / 86°F
  • Period of validity after delivery: 6 months
  • Standard Packaging: HDPE Drums, 35 lbs and 25 kg

Applications.

  • Curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins in the temperature range of 120 - 160°C (248 - 320°F).
  • Use rate: 0.5 - 2.5%.
  • "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide) varies from weeks to months at room temperature depending on the resin type and is virtually unaffected by fillers and pigments, cobalt salts, or tertiary aromatic amines.
  • By adding the inhibitor BC 500 with 0.1 - 0.31 TP3T, shelf life can be significantly extended.

Curing Properties.

  • In the range of 75 - 90°C (167 - 194°F) ("start-up" temperature), the cure rate will not be high if the heat of reaction does not result in warming (e.g., in a hot mold).
  • A truly short cure time of 1 - 3 minutes can only be achieved at temperatures above 115°C (239°F).
  • The optimum temperature range for thermocompression molding is 125 - 150°C (257 - 302°F).
  • ACH-80-AL3 provides improved surface properties for SMC parts.

Curing Process.

  • Mainly used for hot press molding of sheet molding compound (SMC) or block molding compound (BMC).

Reactivity.

  • ACH-80-AL3 reacted slightly faster than CH-80-AL in standard n-butylphenol polyester molding resin.

Decomposition products.

  • Decomposition products that may be detected: tert-butyl alcohol, acetone, cyclohexanone, caprolactone, caprylic acid

Storage.

  • Avoid heat, light, humidity and protect the product from impurities.
  • Stay within safe temperature limits.
