- Norox® MEC RED is a red solution of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cyclohexanone peroxide containing a fire suppressant. When used as an initiator in conjunction with unsaturated polyester resins, it exhibits excellent curing performance at both low and ambient temperatures.Notably, the added red dye aids in mixing.
- Active Oxygen Content: Not to exceed 9.0
- Form: Liquid
- Color: Colorless (water-white)
- Specific gravity at 25°C: 1.12
- Viscosity at 25°C: 18.0 cSt
- Flash point (SETA C.C.): Minimum 170°F/77°C
- Soluble in: Oxygen-containing organic solvents
- Slightly soluble in: Water
- Norox® MEC RED may be considered for the gelation and curing initiation of cobalt-promoted unsaturated polyester resins at low operating temperatures.
- Norox® MEC RED also exhibits good performance at room temperature.
- Compared to standard methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) formulations, it offers the following advantages:
- Shorter gel-to-cure times in many resins.
- It is not as susceptible to cold conditions as standard MEKP.
- It provides excellent smoothness and uniformity throughout the curing cycle.
- It offers exceptional storage stability due to the absence of impurities (water, hydrogen peroxide, unreacted methyl ethyl ketone, and other diluents).
- Enhanced performance when used with gel coats (the hydrophobic properties of Norox® MEC RED provide improved mixing and resin compatibility).
- Standard packaging sizes for Norox® MEC RED are 4x8-pound and 44-pound (20-kilogram) polyethylene bottles.
- Norox® MEC RED is also available pre-dyed in 44-pound (20-kilogram) bottles. Please refer to the technical data sheet from United Initiators, Inc. regarding peroxide dye concentrates.
- Please refer to Sections 14 and 15 of the specific Norox® MEC RED Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for transportation and regulatory information.
