- Norox® MEC FRED is a red mixture of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide and cyclohexanone peroxide, containing a diluent.
- This product is designed to serve as an initiator for unsaturated polyester resins, providing excellent curing performance at both low and room temperatures.
- The addition of a red dye aids in mixing and indicates that proper curing has been achieved when the color fades.
- Active oxygen content does not exceed 9.0.
- Form: liquid; color: colorless.
- Specific gravity at 25°C is 1.12, and viscosity is 18.0 cps.
- Flash point: 170°F / 77°C (SETA C.C. method).
- Soluble in oxygen-containing organic solvents; slightly soluble in water.
- Norox® MEC FRED is recommended for gelation and curing initiation of cobalt-catalyzed unsaturated polyester resins at low operating temperatures.
- Compared to standard methyl ethyl ketone peroxide (MEKP) formulations, this product offers the following advantages:
-
-
- Shorter gel-to-cure times in many resins.
- Less susceptible to cold conditions.
- The curing cycle exhibits exceptional smoothness and consistency.
- Excellent storage stability due to the absence of impurities (water, hydrogen peroxide, unreacted methyl ethyl ketone, and other diluents).
- Enhanced performance with gelatin layers.
-
-
- Experimental data on resin curing for Norox® MEC FRED compared to other products (Norox® MEKP-9 and Norox® MEKP-925) is provided.
-
- Standard packaging sizes are 4x8-pound and 44-pound (20-kilogram) polyethylene bottles.
