United Initiators NOROX®AZOX Acetylacetone Peroxide 37187-22-7

2023-10-11noroxazox
NOROX ® AZOX is a colorless solution of acetylacetone peroxide (AAP) or 2,4-pentanedione peroxide containing stabilizers.NOROX® AZOX is a highly effective polymerization initiator suitable for room-temperature curing of unsaturated polyester resins; it can achieve extremely fast cure times in most resin systems with virtually no effect on gel time. These performance characteristics are particularly beneficial in resin transfer molding (RTM), cast polymers, and other applications requiring fast mold turnaround to improve production efficiency. An additional advantage of NOROX® AZOX is its low fire and explosion hazard. In the United States, it is not required to be labeled with the precautionary “Yellow Label” for organic peroxides during transportation. Technical Data

Applications : NOROX® AZOX is an extremely effective initiator for rapid curing in many resin systems without significantly shortening the gel time.NOROX® AZOX is best suited for resins promoted solely by cobalt, using 0.1% to 0.5% cobalt (naphthoic acid or octanoic acid in a 6% solution). In some cases, the addition of 0.1% to 0.3% diethyl or dimethylaniline can accelerate resin curing, resulting in extremely exothermic curing. The type and level of resin inhibitors also have a significant impact on the performance of NOROX® AZOX. In general, high inhibitor levels are not ideal; some quaternary ammonium salts can cause noticeable yellowing of the resin and may also inhibit the gelation and curing characteristics of the resin system. NOROX® AZOX curing initiators have demonstrated excellent final cure and dimensional stability in tooling and RTM applications. Application Results Tables I and II show the results obtained using NOROX® AZOX compared to standard MEKP formulations. Table I – Gel and Cure Data for Marble Resin Table II – Gel and Cure Data for Composite Resin Furthermore, NOROX® AZOX is often used in combination with standard MEKP formulations; the specific mixing ratio will yield intermediate results between the two products, depending on the ratio.Tables III and IV compare the gel and cure characteristics of several AAP/MEKP mixtures in casting resins and laminating resins.
