- NOROX® 410 is a colorless, free-flowing liquid whose main component is tert-butyl 2-ethylhexanoate peroxide.
- This product is a branched-chain fatty peroxide ester used as an initiator for unsaturated polyester resins under conditions of 70–150°C; it may be used in conjunction with cobalt accelerators.
- Appearance: Colorless liquid.
- Peroxide Content: Approximately 99%.
- Active oxygen content: Approximately 7.32%.
- Antisensitizer: None.
- Density (20°C): Approximately 0.90 g/cm³.
- Viscosity (20°C): approximately 4 mPa·s.
- Refractive index (20°C): approximately 1.428.
- Cold storage stability: Down to -25°C.
- Initiation temperature: approximately 70°C.
- Recommended storage temperature: up to 10°C.
- Shelf life: 3 months.
- Used as a curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins; may be used in conjunction with cobalt accelerators.
- Temperature range: 70–150°C.
- Supply level: 1–2% of the total formulation; may be used in combination with 0.5–1% Accelerator C-101.
- "Shelf life" (gel time of resin + peroxide) is several weeks at room temperature, depending on resin type, fillers, and pigments.
- The “mixing time” (gel time of resin + peroxide + accelerator) can be as long as several days, depending on temperature and peroxide level. Adding 0.1–0.3% of Inhibitor BC 500 can significantly extend the shelf life or mixing time.
- Within the 65–75°C range (“initial temperature”), the curing rate is low unless exothermic reactions occur (e.g., in heated molds). Short curing times of just a few minutes can only be achieved within the optimal temperature range of 110–130°C.
- Major processing methods include continuous impregnation (paper laminates), wet hot-press molding, surface coating of wood products, and electrical insulating varnishes using infrared heating.
- NOROX 410 is standardly packaged in 25-kilogram units.
