United Initiators CUROX®M-300 Methyl ethyl ketone peroxide 1338-23-4

2023-10-11curoxm-300
Description:
  • CUROX® M-300 is a colorless liquid consisting of a mixture of peroxides based on methyl ethyl ketone peroxide, desensitized with phthalate plasticizers. This methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is primarily used as an initiator (radical source) in the curing of unsaturated polyester resins and vinyl ester resins.
Technical Data:
  • Appearance: Colorless liquid
  • Active Oxygen: Not less than 9.8% (mass percentage)
  • Desensitizer: Phthalate plasticizers
  • Density (20°C): approx. 1.148 g/cm³
  • Viscosity (20°C): Approximately 23 mPa·s
  • Miscible with water, but soluble in phthalates
  • Critical temperature (SADT): approximately 60°C
  • Recommended storage temperature: below 30°C
  • Shelf life at temperatures below 30°C is approximately 6 months
  • The initial curing temperature in unsaturated polyester resins is approximately 70°C
  • Packaging: 5-kilogram polyethylene containers
Applications:
  • Used for curing unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins; used in combination with cobalt accelerators at room temperature.
  • Standard dosage: 1–3% of the supply quantity, combined with 0.5–2% of a 1% cobalt solution.
  • The "pot life" (gel time of the resin + peroxide mixture) is typically only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
  • The “working time” (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short but can be extended by adding inhibitors. Other grades include Curox M-100 and Curox M-200.
Curing characteristics:
  • Moderate heat generation, resulting in relatively low-stress curing: moderate mold release time.
  • High ambient temperatures accelerate full cure. Use Curox M-200 to cure unsaturated polyester resins at high temperatures, and use Curox M-100 to cure vinyl ester resins.
Processing Methods:
  • Particularly suitable for hand lay-up, spray-up, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting, and surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gel coats, and topcoats).
  • Spray Equipment: Use spray equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure that all safety equipment is in proper working order. Do not spray MEKP into the air to clean the spray gun.
Safety and Handling:
  • The product should be stored in a sealed container at temperatures below +30°C. Keep in a well-ventilated area. Keep away from sources of fire and heat (e.g., direct sunlight). Isolate from other hazardous and incompatible substances.
  • Avoid contamination with rust, dust, and other particulates. Avoid contact with skin, eyes, and clothing. Wash hands before finishing work and before taking breaks. Preventive skin protection is recommended. Provide adequate ventilation if necessary. Use dust collection equipment to capture any product vapors generated. Avoid the formation of aerosols.Do not inhale vapors or aerosols. If necessary, wear appropriate respiratory protection. Peroxide residues must not be returned to the original container, as decomposition may occur.
