Description:
  • CUROX® M-202 is a colorless liquid consisting of a mixture of methyl ethyl ketone peroxides, using desensitized aliphatic esters. This methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is primarily used as an initiator (radical source) in the curing of unsaturated polyester resins.It is primarily used to cure molded parts at room temperature in conjunction with cobalt accelerators.
Technical Data:
  • Appearance: Colorless liquid
  • Active Oxygen: Approximately 9.1% (mass percentage)
  • Deactivator: Aliphatic ester
  • Density (20°C): Approximately 1.01 g/cm³
  • Viscosity (20°C): Approximately 16 mPa·s
  • Miscible with esters, unsaturated polyester, and vinyl ester resins, but not with water
  • Critical temperature (SADT): Approximately 60°C
  • Low-temperature storage stability: Remains liquid below -25°C
  • Recommended storage temperature: Below 30°C
  • Shelf life at temperatures below 30°C is 6 months from the date of delivery
Applications:
  • A curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins, used in combination with cobalt accelerators at room temperature. Particularly suitable for phthalate- and isophthalate-based resins.
  • Standard dosage: 1–3% of the resin weight, combined with 0.5–2% of a 1% cobalt solution.
  • The "working time" (gel time of resin + peroxide) is typically only a few hours, depending on temperature and resin type.
  • The “working time” (gel time of resin + peroxide + catalyst) is relatively short but can be extended by adding the inhibitor TC-510. Consequently, the mold release factor (fMR = tMR/tgel) can be significantly improved.
Curing Properties:
  • Moderate heat generation. Relatively long demolding time and moderate mold release factor. Temperatures below 20°C significantly prolong curing time; alternatively, cobalt/amine accelerators may be used.
Processing Methods:
  • Particularly suitable for hand lay-up, spray-up, centrifugal casting, fiber winding, resin casting, and surface coatings (fillers, fillers, gel coats, and topcoats).
Spray Equipment:
  • Use spray equipment in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Ensure that all safety devices are functioning properly. Do not clean the spray tip by spraying MEKP into the air.
Measurement:
  • Active: Use OPA resin (20 g) at 25°C for “DIN 16945 cobalt curing.”
  • Formulation (parts by weight): Medium-reactivity resin type (OPA) 100, CUROX® M-202 2, Accelerator C-101 2.
  • Curing Data: Gel time t gel [min] 2.0, maximum curing time t max [min] 14.5, peak temperature T max [°C] 141.
Standard Packaging:
  • Curox® M-202 is available in standard 5-kilogram and 22.5-kilogram polyethylene bottles.
