- BENOX® C-50 is a white, free-flowing granular powder containing 50% benzoyl peroxide and phthalate plasticizers.
- It is used as a curing agent for unsaturated polyester resins and acrylic resins and is suitable for both high-temperature curing and room-temperature curing (when used with amine accelerators) processes.
- Benzoyl peroxide content is 50%, and active oxygen content is 3.30%.
- Appearance: white, free-flowing powder; “initiation” temperature: 70°C.
- Half-life temperature (in 0.1 mol of benzene) is 72°C.
- Recommended storage temperature: not to exceed 30°C. Soluble in phthalates; insoluble in water.
- Active for 6 months from the date of delivery.
- Room-temperature curing: Typically used at a concentration of 2%–5% by resin weight, in combination with 1%–3% of an amine accelerator (usually a 10% solution of dimethylaniline in phthalate esters).
- Note: Do not mix BENOX directly with amine accelerators, as this will cause violent decomposition.
- High-Temperature Curing: BENOX can be used alone or in combination with other high-temperature curing peroxides.
- In certain resin systems, BENOX exhibits a relatively fast cure rate and, in most resin systems, a moderate to high heat release rate, resulting in shorter demolding times.
- It is recommended to store BENOX in its original container, away from flammable materials and all heat sources, sparks, or open flames; protect from direct sunlight; and keep away from cobalt naphthenate, aniline, other accelerators, oxidizing or reducing agents, and strong acids or strong bases.
- The standard packaging specification is 25-kilogram polyethylene bags placed in cardboard boxes.
