AOC Atlac® 382 Powder: Ground Powder of Bisphenol A Fumarate Polyester

2023-12-21atlac-382-powder

Atlac® 382, a ground powder of bisphenol A fumarate polyester, is a ground powder of propoxylated bisphenol A fumarate polyester. It dissolves readily in active monomer solvents (such as styrene) to form an unsaturated polyester resin. A 50% (w/w) solution of Atlac® 382 powder in styrene is referred to as Atlac® 382.(See “Dissolution of Atlac® 382 Powder” for details.)

Characteristic Properties

  • Resistant to hot water, acids, and salt solutions at relatively high temperatures
  • Resistance to alkaline solutions at moderate temperatures
  • Good weather resistance

Typical Applications

Atlac® 382 is suitable for most manufacturing processes, particularly filament winding, centrifugal casting, hand lay-up, and spray-up processes. It can also be used to formulate glass flake coatings and putty.
Atlac® 382 Powder is suitable for various room-temperature curing processes, such as hand lay-up, filament winding, spray-up, cold compression molding, and RTM.
Certified
, cured, unreinforced Atlac® 382 resin is classified as Type 1310 under German DIN 16946/2, Group 5 under DIN 18820/1, and Group 6 under European EN 12131/2.

Dissolution of Atlac® 382 Powder

Atlac® 382 resin can be prepared by dissolving Atlac® 382 powder in styrene at a ratio of 50% (w/w, weight ratio). The dissolution method varies depending on the type of disperser used.
1. When using a Cowless high-speed disperser, first add all the styrene to the dissolution tank. Turn on the agitator and quickly add the Atlac® 382 powder until it is fully dissolved.
2. When using a propeller-type mixer, first add half of the styrene to the dissolution tank and turn on the mixer. Slowly add the Atlac® 382 powder under continuous vortex agitation. After adding the powder, add the remaining half of the styrene and continue stirring until dissolved.
It is recommended to add a small amount of polymerization inhibitor to the styrene before adding the Atlac® 382 powder.(For example: p-tert-butylhydroquinone.
) Slowly raising the dissolution temperature to 50°C can accelerate the dissolution of Atlac® 382 powder in styrene.
To adjust the resin’s gel time, a solution of dimethylaniline and cobalt salt can be used. For specific guidelines, refer to the gel characteristics for different ratios in the *Atlac Resin Industrial Anti-Corrosion Manual*.
