AOC Atlac®580 Tough, Impact-Resistant, Urethane-Modified Vinyl Ester Resin

2023-12-21atlac-580

Atlac® 580 resin-based products, made from a tough, impact-resistant, carbamate-modified vinyl ester resin, offer high mechanical properties, excellent corrosion resistance, and heat resistance.Atlac® 580 resin offers excellent processability, enabling the production of high-strength, durable components when combined with carbon fiber, aramid fiber, or glass fiber composites.

Key Properties

  • Bubble-free curing system, even when using standard MEKP
  • Excellent wetting properties, suitable for glass fiber, carbon fiber, and aramid fiber
  • Low density and low volumetric shrinkage
  • Good toughness and impact strength
  • Low exothermic reaction, suitable for single-layer thick products

Chemical/Physical Properties

Atlac® 580 is a high-performance urethane-modified bisphenol A vinyl ester resin that not only offers excellent corrosion resistance but also provides a perfect combination of heat resistance and flexibility.Atlac® 580 is particularly resistant to alkaline media and hot water. Atlac® 580 also offers excellent processing and curing properties.

Typical Applications

Atlac® 580 is suitable for all manufacturing processes and is particularly well-suited for winding, centrifugal casting, pultrusion, hand lay-up, and spray-up processes. Additional styrene can be added to achieve the viscosity required for resin injection molding.Atlac® 580 can also be mixed with glass flakes or mica to produce mortars (putty), floor coatings, and equipment lining systems. It can be used as a gel coat base resin and a boat laminate resin.

Key Properties

Atlac® 580 exhibits excellent wetting and degassing properties. When standard methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is added, it produces minimal foaming and experiences very little air-induced inhibition, resulting in a surface that is touch-dry upon curing.Atlac® 580 exhibits low exothermic heat release during curing, allowing for the one-step molding of thick parts. Castings made from Atlac® 580 resin have a density approximately 10% lower than those made from other resins, and they also exhibit lower shrinkage after curing.
Because Atlac® 580 contains a urethane additive, thixotropy is easily achieved using standard fumed silica, and compatibility with carbon fiber, glass fiber, and aramid fiber reinforcing materials is improved.

Certifications and Approvals

The properties of cured Atlac® 580 resin castings comply with Type 1310 of German Standard DIN 16946/2 and Group 5 of German Standard DIN 18820/1. Atlac® 580 complies with Group 8 of European Standard EN 13121/1.
Atlac® 580 has passed TÜV testing for use in flue gas scrubbing plants.
